Lifting Ministry Staff
2020 was a year to remember for multiple reasons, COVID and minimum wage laws. Starting in 2020, the state of Illinois has looked for employers to “Lift Up Working Families” by enacting a minimum wage increase to $15 per hour. This increase will be phased in over six years, with nearly a twenty percent increase being in the first year. Staffing is a high percentage of Dickson Valley’s overall budget, and camp ministries typically run on very narrow margins. Most of our staff positions are just above minimum wage or have a base calculation on that rate. Now in the post-covid world the finances of staffing is an even more significant part of the camps budget.
As we look to bless our staff with what we are calling the “Lifting Ministry Staff” initiative, we know the current budget model will not be able to absorb these increases. For all 2021 retreats and beyond, there will be a new rate to help cover the Lifting Ministry Staff initiative. As the states phased-in approach rolls out over the remaining five years, we will also be adjusting prices to make sure we are staying in line with those increases.
